Police have conducted visits to 2 car washes on the Isle of Wight today (Wednesday) as part of a joint operation with the Home Office Immigration Enforcement Team to ensure workplace regulations are met for staff.
Police arrived at the 5 Star Car Wash on East Street, Ryde this morning to carry out checks at the former garage premises. Officers also visited the car wash at Trafalgar Road in Newport shortly before 11:00.
Both businesses were found to be compliant with employment laws.
A spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary has said:
“Today (Wednesday 18 December) Hampshire Constabulary officers, in partnership with Home Office Immigration Enforcement officers, visited car washes on the Isle of Wight as part of a proactive piece of work in Force to check on working conditions, and to ensure that premises are abiding by UK workplace regulations.
“Sites on East Street in Ryde and Trafalgar Road in Newport were visited today and were found to be compliant with employment laws”.
If you have concerns about working conditions, or the treatment of employees, at a car wash in your local area, you can report these anonymously to police via the Clewer app. You can do this here: https://www.theclewerinitiative.org/safecarwash.

These guys are really good I am not surprised they are compliant, they add to our community.
So the police now check working conditions as part of their remit then??? What the?
I remember when police were left to deal with Real police work and fight crime. Not all this nonsense.
They’re there to support the Immigration team who I don’t believe have powers of arrest…
Maybe the police could have had their cars washed at the same time .
Narrow minded opinion of police work.
They would love to come and look at my work place then dark cold and wet
These guys are great bloody hard workers always a good laugh friendly smile
Absolutely Gary, you don’t see any young English guys getting of there back sides and earning a bit!!
May be some young English men may not want to work but I know plenty that work their so is off working in care and work to help the community same goes for many young women that work hard. So don’t paint everyone with the same brush.
If you were willing to look their are plenty of young english people who work very hard.
Gary, and the car washers are ok ish too. No wonder the Police are laughing, early retirement, the worst crime to be encountered here, a blown headlight. YOU too would laugh it that were your job.
At least they are wanting to work not like some people on the island they do a good job
Absolutely Gary
You must be talking about the guys at the car wash not the police as all they do is pick on people and discriminate in my experience
Cashed in your ESA yet lad?
These are great guys.
Can’t we keep these and trade off a few of the drug dealing chavs in Ryde?
Working conditions obviously a red herring
At least they are working more than what some do on the island
