UPDATED – A woman in her 50s is believed to have been murdered in a Ryde property.
Cops were called in shortly after 01:30 this morning by a concerned member of the public. Officers arrived at the scene to find the woman dead in the property at 79, St John’s Road, Ryde.
A 53-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder and has been taken to Newport Police Station for questioning. The unknown man was arrested at the same property.
Next-of-kin have been informed, however the woman’s identity will not be revealed until formal identification procedures have been completed.
A post-mortem examination is due to take place this afternoon.
The scene has been cordoned off while forensic officers examine the house.
Officers from the Hampshire Major Investigation Team (HMIT) are carrying out inquiries to establish the full circumstances surrounding this death. Officers are also carrying out door-to-door enquiries in the area.
UPDATED @ 18:30 – Detectives have been given more time to question the 53-year-old suspect who remains in Police custody this evening.
Hampshire Constabulary have until Saturday afternoon to question the suspect.
