Police responded to reports of the discovery of a body found hanging from a tree in a remote part of East Cowes this afternoon (Monday) – but officers have failed to locate anything untoward.
At just before 15:50, officers were deployed by the Force Control Room after learning that teenagers had located a body at East Cowes Esplanade, near Old Castle Point.
6 units responded to the concern for welfare alert, with an Inspector and Sergeant putting boots on the ground to assist Response and Patrol colleagues.
After clambering over the landslip and conducting a search of the local area, officers stood down the incident having failed to locate a body or anything of a suspicious nature.
Police say the call was made with good intent.

To be honest the police did miss a body hanging in a shower with loads of blood in a flat so maybe a second search is needed
You would hope that 12 police officers would find something
Rushed headline, it was a “Potential” body discovery that police attended….
Either there’s a body or there isn’t if not it’s hardly good intent and a waste of resources
It may have gone home for tea …
How can it be good intent – do teenagers not know what a human look’s like, hopefully police have had a good word with them and parents pay cost of call out, expect police were attending at speed too putting them and other road users at risk as well.
Parenting isn’t allowed these days, the state are dragging them up, the far left woke extreme gang dictate how to drag your children up now…
The plus side is they would be doing very little else had they not had gone there. Hardly be patrolling the streets, rounding up junkies, alcoholics, vagrants, thugs, and other low lives to prevent crime, as they are now toothless and the young know it.
What had the teens been taking ???
What a waste of resources! Was there a body or not? Come on? Surprised they looked up for long enough to actually notice something other than their phone.
If this is their idea of a prank it’s a very sad state of affairs our younger generation are in 🙁
Police do a very hard job, but are hampered by councils who threaten withdrawal of the council tax precept. Sometimes they ain’t allowed to find anything suspicious. Especially when certain parties are concerned regarding suspicious behaviour and fires, or alleged murder, or hobos rampaging which might put off the holiday set who think this is the Isle of unicorns and wonder…
There could have been discarded litter. Do occasionally come across odd items hanging in trees. A sleeping bag, bin bag. Imaginations in the woods. Would possibly not want to investigate properly themselves if spooked them.
That was exactly my thoughts as well .
Thank goodness it was not a tragic ending .
Thank you for posting something reasonable.
Far better than the “kids these days” brigade and their knee-jerk hatred of anyone under 75
I agree.
What we don’t know is whether they took some photos of it that the police have seen. The chances are that they did, which is why the police are saying the call was made with good intent.
Unfortunately, none of that would ever be considered by the idiots here who think all teenagers are drugged up vandals – but most teenagers are far better people than those posting here.
Clambering over the landslip lol there’s a path running right through it. and at least the little darlings didn’t set fire to the forest/ children’s play area or smash bottles in the paddling pool this time
What has happened to this island???
East Cowes has definitely gone down hill
What the hell is happening to this island its getting like south london
