An investigation into a suspected arson attack on a vehicle in Newport during the early hours of this morning (Tuesday) has been launched.
1 fire appliance was mobilised to Ash Road on Pan Estate at 01:50, with firefighters using a hose reel jet and breathing apparatus to extinguish the flames. They remained on the scene for around an hour damping down, but the fire was extinguished within just 15 minutes.
Due to the suspicious circumstances of the blaze, Hampshire Constabulary was alerted to the incident.
A scene guard is now in place around the damaged Ford Fiesta as detectives probe the circumstances of the fire. The front end of the hatchback has been badly damaged.
The matter is being treated as a suspected act of arson.
