1 male has been detained and is on his way to custody following the incident at an address on Atherley Road a short time ago.
Around a dozen officers took up position in a public car park behind the property sometime around 19:30. Some of the force then donned heavy personal protection equipment including body armour and helmets before moving in.
The incident has been brought to a safe conclusion and teams are now standing down.
Neighbours say the detained male is known in the local community.
UPDATE TUESDAY – Police have confirmed that a 41-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of making threats to kill and criminal damage.
In a statement, a spokesperson for Hampshire Constabulary has said:
“Officers made an arrest at an address in Atherley Road, Shanklin, following an incident shortly after 6pm last night (2 September).
“It was reported that a person inside the address was threatened and damage was caused inside.
“A 41-year-old man from Shanklin was arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and making threats to kill. He remains in custody at this time”.
