Police have cordoned off part of a residential street in Ryde this morning (Friday) following what is thought to be the discovery of a person lying in the street.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service and Police were called to Castle Street, between George Street and Nelson Street, at around 06:45 after a person was found in an unwell state.
Paramedics have rushed the individual to St Mary’s Hospital under blue lights. Their condition is unknown at this stage.
A section of the pavement in Castle Street has been cordoned off with a scene guard in place whilst investigations take place to establish exactly what has happened.
UPDATE @ 09:57 – Hampshire Constabulary have confirmed that they were called to reports of a man with a head injury lying on the pavement in Castle Street this morning.
A spokesperson has said:
“We were called at 6.07am this morning, Friday, March 15, to a report of a man with a head injury lying on the pavement at the junction of Castle Street and George Street in Ryde.
“Following initial enquiries, we do not believe that the man was assaulted.
“He has been taken to hospital for treatment.”
