Police have cordoned off access to a beach on the outskirts of Ryde this evening (Sunday) as part of a wider, ongoing investigation. Officers are understood to have arrived at Players Beach in Binstead at around 17:00, with a cordon across the public footpath from Ladies Walk soon established. Walkers are being turned away from the area as officers maintain a scene guard around the beach and the woods – although there is no obvious reason for the crime scene cordon. It’s thought that CCTV footage is being reviewed in the local area. Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has been approached for a statement, with further information expected on Monday morning.
UPDATE MONDAY – A 16-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of assault and threats to kill. Read more at https://www.islandecho.co.uk/teen-arrested-after-binstead-beach-assault-and-threats-to-kill-made/.
