TEEN ARRESTED AFTER BINSTEAD BEACH ASSAULT AND THREATS TO KILL MADE

A 16-year-old boy has been arrested and questioned after a man in his 40s was assaulted and threats were made to kill a woman during an incident in Binstead yesterday afternoon (Sunday). Police say that a man in his 40s suffered a cut to his head as a result of an assault at around 12:20. This led to Players Beach – off Ladies Walk – being cordoned off by officers, who maintained a scene guard into last night. Island Echo understands that the victim was ‘knocked out’ and had blood pouring from his ear. It follows an alleged exchange of words on the beach. A woman accompanying the victim was then verbally attacked, with the suspect allegedly making threats to kill her. Members of the public from the nearby fishing club soon intervened. Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed that a 16-year-old boy from Ryde was arrested on suspicion of wounding or inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent and making threats to kill. He has since been released from custody on bail whilst investigations continue.
