UPDATED: The pursuit of a vehicle by Police has ended safely outside a school in the Carisbrooke area of Newport this afternoon (Thursday).

At just before midday, officers began the pursuit of a BMW 3-series estate through the streets of Newport. The driver of the failing-to-stop vehicle led Police up through Trafalgar Road, Carisbrooke Road and then right into Wellington Road.

It’s at Wellington Road that the chase has ended, close to Christ the King College. Officers stopped the vehicle and quickly restrained the driver on the floor, as well as detaining a passenger. 5 vehicles are now on scene.

It has been confirmed that 1 male has been arrested this lunchtime and is being taken into custody at Newport Police Station.

Police dogs are currently checking over the BMW.

It is the second pursuit in Newport in as many day’s following an incident at Bluebell Meadows yesterday.

UPDATE @ 13:52 – Hampshire Constabulary have confirmed that a 27-year-old man from Rowley Regis, West Midlands has been arrested on suspicion of failing to stop, dangerous driving, driving without insurance and drug driving.
