A recovery operation is underway at a beauty spot near Sandown this morning (Thursday) following a single vehicle road traffic collision on Culver Down.
A silver Vauxhall Zafira has sustained heavy damage as a result of the crash, which has occurred at the bottom of the first main car park overlooking Sandown Bay.
It appears the people carrier has crashed into a ditch before flipping onto its side. The windows of the car have been smashed and the contents – including chidren’s toys – ejected.
Emergency services, including the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service, are understood to have been called to the scene at around 06:15 this morning.
3 fire crews from Ryde, Sandown and Bembridge were mobilised to the scene but thankfully no persons were trapped inside the vehicle. The female occupant was out of the vehicle and in the care of paramedics.
Firefighters made the vehicle safe.
It remains unclear why the vehicle ended up in such a peculiar location.
