A van has rolled down a hill and ploughed through the window of a property in Ryde tonight (Monday).
The incident has occurred on the lower section of George Street between the junctions with the Esplanade and Castle Street.
It’s understood the Citroen Belingo was parked outside a property when either the handbrake failed or was not applied correctly, sending the vehicle rolling backwards down the hill.
Thankfully, no one has been injured in the incident but the frontage of a rented building has been damaged – although the structure appears to be sound.
The crash occurred at around 20:30.
The situation is currently being dealt with between the 2 parties involved.
George Street remains open to all traffic.

Its fortunate no one was hurt.
All these cars have a mind of there own on the island
Oops
I had a hand brake fail on a car about 20 years ago, about a month after it had been serviced at a main dealer. It happens. I was not happy. Lucky a parked lorry stop it going too far. :-/
What do you expect from the worst drivers on the road white van man!!
I hope he got a ticket for parking on double yellows
Always leave you car ‘in gear’, reverse if facing down hill, 1st if facing up hill.
Then, if the handbrake fails, it is unlikely to move at all.
Happy to sort out the Islands problems for free. Just ask.
yep – I have always and I mean always, left my car in 1st gear and the hand brake on if facing up hill, or in reverse gear, if facing down hill.
Snowflakes don’t wish to hear it from me though n.g.
Perhaps they might think differently when it is they crushed against a wall screaming in agony.
