Children out trick or treating in Shanklin have been handed SOAP instead of sweets, leading to concerned parents issuing a warning tonight (Thursday).
1 youngster has ‘choked’ and has been violently sick after consuming at least 1 of the green sweet-like objects, which were collected from an unknown address in the vicinity of the High Street and surrounding roads this evening.
Another youngster was also given the soap bars but luckily realised they were not sweets before consuming any.
It is unclear at this stage if this is a cruel and potentially dangerous trick, or an honest mistake. There are concerns that the soaps may be melted down washing power liquid tabs, which are extremely dangerous.
The ‘soap’ is green in colour and is animal shaped, possibly resembling a chicken or bird.
UPDATE @ 21:10 – Another parent has tonight come forward with news of the discovery of another soap ‘sweet’ – this time in a completely different shape.
Over in East Cowes, some children have been given apple-shaped peelers containing a sharp blade. Parents have raised safety concerns about this.

How sick do you have to be? You should be utterly ashamed of yourselves. They are just children having fun. I hope someone finds out where you live…..and messages me.
@flabbergasted – shut up – any kid with half a brain would smell that it was soap immediately – if the child cannot differentiate between sweets and soap then its parents should be standing there with it.
if someone had given me soap when I went trick or treating as a kid – they would most likely have ended up with no flowers left standing in their garden and/or nails propped up against their car tyres for starters. Possibly even a decent sized potato rammed up the exhaust pipe. Chances are, I would have harassed them for weeks afterwards as well.
That’s why it’s called trick or treat
Prick
No it’s not you moron! It’s called trick it treat because if the household don’t give a treat after the effort of dressing up you play a trick on them!
You are a complete retard. You think giving them soap to eat is acceptable then? There’s only one moron on here.
Totally agree. It was probably his idea! Sicko
@flabbergasted – you do realise that some kids go out with the intention of finding someone that will “bite” at their antics, just
so that they have an evenings entertainment to look forward to at someone elses expense.
Putting a sign up that says no trick or treating, practically guarantees that your door will get knocked all night long by some kids.
you are biting hard at the comments on this site and I bet the kids that live near you, get great pleasure from winding you up.
My fiercely independent 90 year old mother still lives alone in her own home.
If she is pestered by trick or treaters they and their irresponsible parents will have a damned site more than soap sweets to sorry about!
The idea is the kids play a trick on the householder not get given soap sweets! You’re clueless annyeonghase!
That’s called ‘Demanding money with menaces’ and police have been advising kids not to of that for decades.
I believe the official Hampshire Constabulary advise is for trick or treaters only to go to houses they know.
Let’s pretend you a kid, and you end up choking and being violently ill on a soap disguised as a treat. But it’s OK because it’s ‘just a prank bro’. I’m not surprised if you are the one behind it
“They’re just children having fun”? What right do you/they have to have fun at other peoples’ expense? You want your kids to go begging but why should I have to indulge them if I don’t want to. I wish your little darlings would, erm, go away.
Dont answer the door if u do not want to take part not try to poison innocent children. Clearly u have not got ur own kids or was never allowed to be a kid growing up. Miserable cow get a hobby hahahahahah
You’re more than welcome not to partake, don’t answer your door or better still put up a sign saying no trick or treaters. You don’t have to be a miserable arsehole about it…just don’t join in it’s that simple!! They have every right to do it, just like you have every right not to take part…difference is little children don’t sit there with a stick up their arses about houses that don’t give out candy whereas a ‘grown adult’ like you has to bitch on the Internet about small children enjoying a worldwide holiday. Get a life.
Decent parents would attend young children in this pursuit of mini blackmail/scrounging, OR just send the children to known friends and family homes
Better still they could get off of Facebook for one evening and do a little party for their tax credit kept children.
That way all would be safe the elderly would not be afraid and the older or more vile mini thugs would not ‘use’ this event as an excuse for vandalism
But as we know now real Mothers are too often replaced by a ‘muvver’ who cares little ‘wot the kids are up to’ as long as they don’t have to do anything and charity tax credits are paying for their little delights
Go with your children and surely the police can trace the dangerous idiot who gives poison to children?
OMG I can’t believe some people can be so cruel and irresponsible. It is so lovely seeing so many young children having fun with their mums and dads. I had several groups last night in Sandown, all well behaved and polite. Surely if you don’t like Tick or Treaters, don’t put up decorations and lights to encourage them. There is no excuse for cruelty towards innocent children
If in doubt don’t go out.
Were these even given out as sweets? You can get home made soap kits and all sorts , perfume makers , bath bomb sets , maybe a child made these to give out alongside sweets or for something a bit different ? Why assume someone was trying to poison children .
What child would even eat it ? Surely they spit it straight out , the child “wouldn’t be here now if I hadn’t stuck my fingers down his throat ” is a bit extreme , foaming at the mouth and choking , first rule for choking is DONT put your fingers down anyone who’s choking throat. The mother is obviously an attention seeker and souping up the whole story.
The kid got some soap the mother let the kid eat it by not checking properly and it made the news?
Where’s the originality
Out some laxitives in the sweets instead
Glad to see East cowes still the same as the old times! Lol
So, parents allow their children to go to the house of a stranger and ask for sweets. Tomorrow they will remember to tell them NOT to take sweets from strangers. Confused?
Better soap than drugs
