Police and paramedics are attending a single vehicle collision in which a van has crashed into a bridge near Brading this afternoon (Saturday).
The incident has occurred between Brading and Ryde at Rowborough Bridge, just before the junction with Carpenters Road.
A St John Ambulance crew are on scene, on behalf of the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service, alongside an Operational Commander and a Rapid Response Paramedic.
Police are also present.
The incident, which has involved a Citroen van, occurred just before 15:15.
The main road between Ryde and Sandown remains open to traffic in both directions.
UPDATE @ 15:45 – The male driver of the vehicle has been given the all clear by paramedics, but has now been detained by Police.
UPDATE SUNDAY – 40-year-old Tom Johnson has been charged with drink driving, Police have confirmed.
