-A car has rolled over and come to a rest on its side – trapping the occupants – on the main road between Godshill and Whitwell this afternoon (Wednesday).
Emergency services are currently on scene near the junction with Beacon Alley and Sheepwash Lane having been alerted to the incident shortly before 15:45.
Police say that a car and a van have been involved in the incident – but the van has failed to stop at the scene.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service has 2 appliances from Newport and Ryde on scene, as well as 2 senior officers.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service has a paramedic crew, a critical care paramedic and an operational commander in attendance.
Police have closed the road in both directions whilst fire crews and paramedics work to free those trapped.
UPDATE @ 16:28 – 2 occupants have been assisted from the vehicle, which has since been righted by firefighters.
They are being checked over by paramedics.
UPDATE @ 19:00 – The car has been recovered and the road has re-opened.
The van and driver involved in the incident has now been identified after making himself known to Police.

So how does a van either head Whitwell or God’shill get away – because by time you get through telling police info to mainland control room they could be at ferry Terminal. The good old days when you phoned Newport police station and you could tell them before having to do dob,address postcode location etc etc .you could almost speak directly to officers in their car and tell them while driving to you. Guess van will have no insurance etc.
