A section of Newport High Street remains closed to traffic this morning (Wednesday) to enable Southern Water to carry out emergency repairs.
The closure, from the junction with Quay Street to Coppins Bridge, came into force at 19:00 last night with crews working through the night to repair the problem.
Despite the best efforts to complete the work before rush hour, it has been confirmed that the road will remain closed until at least 10:00 this morning.
Motorists are being diverted locally.
UPDATE – High Street has now re-opened.
