The main connecting Ventnor and Whitwell is partially flooded this morning (Saturday).
Motorists are having to transit between the 2 South Wight areas with caution due to the carriageway being underway in several sections.
Heavy downpours continue and water run off from the fields is adding to the situation.
Southford Lane at the northern end of Whitwell village is also flooded due to high river levels on the Eastern Yar. A flood alert remains in place for the river.
Further afield, Highwood Lane in Rookley is also severely flooded and is described as impassable.
The closure of Wroxall for gas main replacement works means more vehicles than usual are using Ventnor Road to Whitwell.
All traffic should divert via the official diversion through Shanklin, if possible.
Southern Vectis advise that their Route 3 buses are now diverting via Godshill, Shanklin and Bonchurch to reach Ventnor. The Route 6 buses will divert from Whitwell to Godshill with passengers heading to Ventnor changing to the Route 3 bus.

Thousands more houses will cause rapid water run off from the roads, rooves and car parks, instead of it slowly trickling into the ancient fields that are to be built over now, for the rest of eternity.
So more flooding will happen in areas so far unaffected.
