Island swimming star Zac Lacey added another medal to his impressive medal collection after he won gold in the 200m butterfly event at the 2023 European Down Syndrome Swimming Championships in Italy on Tuesday (5th September).
Competing in the T21 category, Zac broke free from the pack to power home by a sizeable margin finishing 7 seconds ahead of Portuguese Filipe Santos.
Later in the day, the 22-year-old won silver in the 50m butterfly where he was narrowly beaten by Vicente Ereira – also from Portugal
Turning to team events, Zac bagged another medal alongside Dylan Williams, Will Reed, & Mark Evens after the British quartet finished 2nd in the 4x100m medley relay.
Zac has appeared on Island Echo numerous times before, his collection of medals – not only domestic but international – is the envy of any athlete. Ryde resident Lacey was crowned World Champion in the 200m Butterfly after winning gold in Portugal last October.
The European Down Syndrome Swimming Championships are currently being held in Padova, Italy from 3rd – 10th September.
