
The recent 22nd IOW Marlins Open Swim Meet attracted swimmers from no fewer than 31 clubs, with those from as far away as Leicester and Exeter joining local swimmers from the Island’s Seaclose, West Wight and Ryde clubs.
In total there were 70 swimmers who entered races that covered all strokes over 25, 50, 100, 200 and 800 metre distances, plus team relay events.
The top female was Susan Cummings from Banbury SC whilst the top male crown was taken by Terry Wright from Bracknell & Wokingham. Both were presented with a bottle of Mermaid Gin.
The best overall club, and winners of The Heights Memorial Trophy, were Banbury SC.
The winner of the Charles Ambler Trophy Award for the swimmer who competed in the most events was Terry Wright of Bracknell & Wokingham SC.
Bob Cooper, the meet referee and Marlins member, said:
“After 3 years absence due to the pandemic, it was such a relief to be back and sharing with such an enthusiastic group of swimmers, officials and helpers for a competitve afternoon.
“I know many of the swimmers were staying over for the weekend enjoying the Island”.
