Firefighters helped to rescue a man from a stream on the outskirts of Newport during the early hours of this morning (Thursday).
Crews from Newport and Ryde were mobilised to Birchmore Lane at Blackwater shortly after 01:00. The fire service were alerted by a call from Police.
Once on scene it was discovered that a man was pinned down in a ditch by his mobility scooter. Fire crews helped to free the man from his predicament.
It is unclear what the gentleman was doing in such a remote location in the middle of the night.
UPDATE @ 14:35 – It has been revealed that the incident took place on the Newport to Sandown cycle path.
The mobility scooter remains in situ with Police tape wrapped around it.
He was on his way home from the pub it was parked up outside hogs head at 9:00pm
