A man stuck up to his waist in mud on the River Medina was rescued by fire crews and HM Coastguard during the early hours of this morning (Wednesday).
At around 00:30, the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service mobilised an appliance and 2 specialist rescue vehicles to Newport Quay following reports of an individual stuck fast in the mud.
Ventnor Coastguard Rescue Team and the Needles Coastguard Rescue Team were also sent to the scene around 10 minutes later, alongside Cowes RNLI at 00:50, Police and the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.
Wholetime and retained Firefighters from Newport used water rescue equipment to swiftly reach the 30-year-old individual and take him to safety.
Fire crews left the individual in the care of the Police whilst awaiting an ambulance. Paramedics eventually checked over the male casualty and it is understood he was conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital.
If you become stuck, or see someone else stuck in the mud, dial 999 and ask for the COASTGUARD.
