MAN RUSHED TO HOSPITAL AND CORDON ERECTED AROUND VENTNOR PROPERTY

UPDATED: A man has been rushed to hospital and is set to be airlifted to the mainland for treatment following an incident at a property in Ventnor this evening (Saturday).

Police have erected a cordon around an address in Willow Close off St Margerat’s Glade in the upper reaches of the town.

The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service and Hampshire Constabulary were called to the scene on the quiet residential street at around 17:30.

1 casualty has been rushed under Police escort to St Mary’s Hospital in Newport. At this stage it is thought the gentleman has suffered a medical episode of sorts, but Police are carrying out all enquiries to ensure no foul play.

As part of those investigations, the property has been cordoned off pending the arrival of detectives from Newport CID.

Next of kin have been informed.

UPDATE @ 20:42 – The man has been flown to Southampton General Hospital by the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Air Ambulance.

Hampshire Constabulary are yet to comment on the incident.

UPDATE SUNDAY – Despite the best efforts of all involved, the unnamed man died in hospital last night, according to family members.

Hampshire Constabulary are not thought to be treating the death as suspicious and as such all cordons have been removed.

A file is being prepared for the coroner.
