MAN ENTERING THE WATER SPARKS EMERGENCY RESPONSE TO SHANKLIN

UPDATED: Police, paramedics, a Co-Responder, 2 Coastguard Rescue Teams and Sandown & Shanklin Independent Lifeboat have all responded to reports of a man entering the water on Shanklin Esplanade tonight (Wednesday).

The alarm was raised shortly after 20:00 when local fishermen raised concerns for the welfare of a male seen walking into the sea opposite the crazy golf at Shanklin.

Solent Coastguard immediately mobilised 2 Coastguard Rescue Teams from Ventnor and Bembridge and Sandown Lifeboat. However, the assets were quickly stood down as Police managed to coax the man out of the water.

Paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service are now checking over the male. A Bronze Commander is also on scene.

UPDATE @ 20:53 – All emergency services have now stood down from the incident.

The male is being conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital for treatment and assessment.
