A 29-year-old man has been arrested by Police during an operation involving the National Police Air Service helicopter in Ryde this lunchtime (Tuesday).
Officers descended on the George Street and Dover Street area shortly before midday with the NPAS helicopter from Bournemouth soon to be seen overhead.
With the helicopter circling, Police moved in on an individual on Monkton Street close to the junction with Melville Street. Within 60 seconds he had been cuffed and placed in a Police van cell.
Hampshire Constabulary have confirmed that a 29-year-old man from Ryde was arrested in connection with an assault that took place in Newport on 28th August.
The aerial search continued following the arrest but all resources were stood down around 15 minutes later.
The National Police Air Service has confirmed that their helicopter from Bournemouth was assisting Hampshire Police with a tasking in Ryde.

So if you was assaulted you wouldn’t want him arrested? The police are dammed if they do and dammed if they don’t by people like you.
There’s a difference between wanting someone arrested, and wasting unnecessary resources for a person who had assaulted someone. Stuff like that should be reserved for when that person crashed a car and sent that woman into a coma. There is literally no logical or feasible reason to deploy a helicopter in this situation.
unless you are privy to the specifics surrounding the reasons to deploy assets as seen fit by the police, then your comments are baseless in fact and had you had all the relevant facts to hand, then your assessment would most likely have reached a different conclusion.
