A 23-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of drink driving after a crash on Racecourse Roundabout during the early hours of this morning (Tuesday).
Police were called at 00:40 to reports of a single vehicle collision on the A3054.
A Citroen Saxo appears to have continued straight on, crashing into the middle of the large roundabout causing damage to street furniture.
Hampshire Constabulary have confirmed that a 23-year-old man from Ryde has been arrested on suspicion of driving a vehicle when alcohol level above limit.
He remains in custody at this time.
No one was injured in the incident.
UPDATE @ 13:26 – 24-year-old Samuel Corney of Ashey Road, Ryde, has been charged with the offence of driving a motor vehicle whilst over the prescribed limit – drink driving. He blew 86 microgrammes in 100 millilitres of breath, the legal limit being 35.
He will appear before the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court in Newport on 15th October.
