Police on the Isle of Wight have conducted a successful operation to detain a wanted male near Ryde Canoe Lake this afternoon (Tuesday).
Officers received intelligence that a male – wanted since January in connection with an offence by Avon and Somerset Police – was on the Isle of Wight, and had planned to leave via ferry to return to the mainland.
Police units including the Armed Response Vehicle were spotted at several ferry terminals in and around Ryde shortly after 11:00, including at Hovertravel and Ryde Pier, with a description of the male being issued to staff at both companies.
Further intelligence and combined work between the ARV and response and patrol teams led to teams descending on Canoe Lake Road just after midday, with an individual subsequently being located and arrested.
The man remains in custody at Newport Police Station.
UPDATE @ 17:05 – Island Echo can now reveal that a 35-year-old man was arrested by Isle of Wight officers in a joint intelligence-led operation with Avon and Somerset Police.
The man is said to have been wanted in connection with a criminal damage and threats to kill incident in Bath on 22nd January.

Good work all round to detain this individual, well done.
Why didn’t they get him collared on the mainland? More unecesary expense!
Not only charge him for his original crime but fine him for breaking covid rules as well. Time we made an example of these covididiots.
