Cowes RNLI lifeboat and a local Coastguard Rescue Team are conducting a search of Wootton Creek this morning (Monday) in response to a mayday alert.
Search and rescue teams are responding to the most serious call for help, which was received sometime before 11:30.
Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team are on scene at Fishbourne ferry terminal and are conducting a sweep of the coastline. Meanwhile, Cowes Lifeboat is searching the length of the creek on each side.
UPDATE @ 12:30 – The search of Wootton Creek continues this lunchtime, but nothing untoward has been discovered.
Coastguard Rescue Officers are now carrying out individual searches of the pontoons at the south end of the creek, close to The Sloop pub.
It has been confirmed that the spoken word Mayday was received shortly after 11:00.
UPDATE @ 13:20 – Nothing untoward has been found and therefore the search has now been called off with all resources stood down. The incident remains ‘open’, however.
