A friendly pod of dolphins has been spotted in the Solent today (Saturday).
It isn’t unusual to see dolphins around the coast of the Isle of Wight but they are normally sighted off Sandown and Ventnor, not Cowes and Ryde.
Island Echo reader Brandon captured the mammals just off Cowes shortly before 09:00 this morning, with Stuart then spotting the pod whilst mid-Solent this lunchtime. It’s thought the dolphins have been chasing shoals of mackerel.
It is estimated that the pod contains at least 10 dolphins.

Chavs on jet skis will soon scare them away.
Chavs on jet skis? I’m guessing you don’t know what a chav is?
Jet skis don’t scare them off. A friend of mine (no, he’s not a chav but a local MD of a local business) he is a member of a club and has video of them on jet skis playing with them off the back of the island
And they often “race” speed boats
This is what happens when all the large ships can’t go into port
What a lovely thing to see some wonderful news for a change better than hearing about druggies
Many more than 10 I think. Great to see that maybe our waters around the island are getting cleaner…. hopefully people will remember to take their litter home and leave only footprints at the beach
How lovely to just see the video of them in the sea wow
