Remember “Challenge Anneka” or “DIY SOS”? Well that’s the sort of challenge Lanesend Primary has to overcome.

Lanesend is due to move into new premises during May and opens its doors at what was the Somerton Middle school site on Friday 16th June. The new premises have been refurbished but there is still so much do and the school are asking the community to help.

Caroline Sice, Headteacher of Lanesend Primary said, “There has been a lot of work at the new premises but we still have so much more to do, we have lovely new toilets but no toilet roll holders, we have some really lovely bright new classrooms but then bare brick in other areas, a courtyard for our reception children but it has a pond and needs a real tidy up. There are some areas of the school which haven’t been touched and we want the school to be the best it can be for our children.”

Lanesend Primary has a very short time to finish the school before the children move in and needs volunteers who can donate their time or even materials to ensure the school is ready on time.

Caroline said, “We already have a number of parents who have put themselves forward to help, we are organising a Jubilee Fayre to say goodbye to the existing site and raise much needed funds for the relocation, Bestival has already kindly given us two Bestival tickets to auction, which is fantastic!

“We do need more help and this is where would like to reach out to the local community.”

Lanesend Primary takes the keys on Monday 21st May and has until Friday 16th June before the doors open to the children, in that time there is plastering, painting, gardening, carpentry, general DIY and a whole host of other jobs which the school need help with.

The school is currently drawing up a list of volunteers and jobs and any help which can be given would be very much appreciated. If you or your business can donate any time or materials then please contact the school on tel 293233 or email [email protected]
