Anglian Home Improvements has pledged its support to Isle of Wight Hockey Club Ladies 3rd XI by kitting its players out for the new season ahead, after the club was named a winner of Anglian’s ‘Support for Sport’ campaign.

Backed by Olympic hockey player Sam Quek MBE, Support for Sport was launched by the home improvements firm to put the spotlight on all those who play a sport at a grassroots level.

Anglian appealed for community clubs to apply for 1 of 20 kit sponsorships worth £300. Sam helped to select the lucky winners, with Isle of Wight Hockey Club Ladies 3rd XI being one of the teams selected to kick off their season in style.

Founded in over 100 years ago, Isle of Wight Hockey Club Ladies 3rd XI plays an important role in the Isle of Wight community by bringing people of all ages together through sport. The team, which trains at Rew Valley Sports Centre on Tuesday evenings, seeks to achieve a balance between promoting enjoyment of the sport and helping its player to master it. Aly Townend, Isle of Wight Hockey Club Ladies 3rd XI Manager, said:

“We are all so thankful to Anglian for this generous donation. We found out about the Support for Sport campaign and decided to submit an application, but it was a complete surprise to hear we’d been successful.

“With the new kit, the team not only looks the part, but this gesture of support will help to foster an even greater sense of team spirit and positivity among the players and all those who help out at the club. We pride ourselves on welcoming players of all ages and abilities, and I would urge all those interested in hockey to get in touch and find out more about joining the club.”
