A personal trainer from the Isle of Wight has celebrated her 60th birthday with a trio of podium finishes at the Arnold’s Sports Festival in Brazil, just 2 years after deciding to take up bodybuilding.
Pearl Dobson marked a milestone moment yesterday (Sunday 7th April) by competing in one of the world’s most prestigious bodybuilding events, stepping on stage in front of thousands of spectators.
The Arnold’s Sports Festival, known for showcasing elite athletes across strength and fitness sports, was where Pearl first found inspiration back in 2022 – attending as a spectator at the UK event in Birmingham. Motivated by the experience, she committed to becoming a competitor herself.
Over the following two years, she dedicated herself to intensive training, strict discipline and overcoming injuries that could have derailed her progress. Her efforts quickly paid off. Pearl claimed her first international title at the European Championships before placing 5th at the World Championships just months later.
Her appearance at the Arnold’s Brazil, attended by over 20,000 people across 3 days, was the culmination of her journey from fitness fan to international athlete. She earned three medals: 2nd place in one category and two 3rd-place finishes in others.
The achievement is even more significant given the doubts she faced about competing at her age, and her ability to juggle the demands of training with work as a personal trainer.
Pearl Dobson said:
“At that moment, I realized this wasn’t just something I admired from the sidelines – it was something I wanted to do. I had no idea what was ahead, but I knew I had to try.”
“Of course, I had my share of doubts. There were times when I wondered if it was really possible. But I’ve always believed that you can find a way if you keep moving forward.”
“I’ve always believed that age is just a number. It’s the mind that makes the difference. If you believe in yourself, you can achieve things you never thought possible.”

“I can’t even begin to express what this means to me. It’s not just about the awards; it’s about proving to myself and others that anything is possible if you believe in your dreams.”
“If I can do it, anyone can. The only thing standing in your way is your belief in yourself.”
Well done pearl,outstanding!
