Continued investment in local journalism, married with a commitment to providing around-the-clock news first, fast and free, has led to a new milestone being met by the Island’s news source, Island Echo.
In the month of August alone, Island Echo saw a total of 3.1million page views generated – a 10.6% increase year-on-year. Those page views came from 393,000 users – up 14.6% on the same period in 2021.
This milestone achievement comes in the same year that Island Echo celebrates its 10th year of publishing, growing from a one-man band into a thriving independent publisher employing a small team of journalists on track to produce over 5,800 articles in 2022.
Some 546 articles were published between 1st-31st August, which is just over 17 a day. The busiest day of August was Friday 26th when 162,490 page views were generated in a single day.
Darren Toogood, Editor/Publisher of Island Echo, says:
“To reach this incredible milestone is absolutely fantastic, especially in our 10th year and less than 12 months after being named the ICNN Community News Website of the Year at the newsawards2021.
“Since the pandemic, interest in local news has skyrocketed. We thought that things might level out this year as life returns to normal but instead our statistics have continued on an upward trend.
“We came incredibly close to hitting the 3 million page view mark in July, so the whole team put in that extra effort throughout August to absolutely smash past the target.
“Our focus is now on diversifying our output to include more community, heritage and sport news whilst working towards the next milestone – 6,000 articles in a single year”.
We would like to thank all of our readers, advertisers and supporters for your continued support

Well done Island Echo.
You are now my go to page.
Me too , but 393,000 viewers, that’s twice the population of the Island…
Might as well go on 4chan or kiwifarms
An excellent platform for readers to air and share their views
So long as censorship remains reasonable then a wonderful platform to keep the threatened freedom of speech alive
Well done all I no longer have the CP as prefer interactive media.
Thank you all
To think that I criticised a spelling mistake last week – Oh! shame on me! Well done Island Echo and all its staff ! You are now my top IoW promotion tool !
