Isle of Wight bodybuilder Pearl Dobson has won Gold in the Tsunami Showdown Pro Qualifier this weekend in Metz, France.
This follows a very hard-fought second placing at the 2bros Regional competition in Maidenhead last weekend
Pearl – who lives in Yartmouth – has had an incredible first season as a bodybuilder. She attained gold in most of the UK bodybuilding federations and won a pro card in the process.
Pearl says:
“I have never been one for standing still, so after discussing with my team I decided that I would try and compete in Europe with the IFBB.
“The road to get to Europe has not been easy. To be competitive in Europe, I knew I would have to up my game, and this meant training 5 days a week. Weighing every item of food, measuring salt intake and of course fluids.
“At 59 years old, my body doesn’t recover the same as many of the ladies I compete against, as they are often a decade or more younger, so as much as the workouts are very intense, I make sure my sleep and rest allows my muscles to repair.
“I was not only the oldest by 15 years but also the smallest, but my team have worked tirelessly to get me in the best possible shape. The standard of the athletes in Europe is incredible, the ladies are all so beautiful and elegant. I spend most of my time worrying that I don’t trip over whilst wearing the 5inch high heeled shoes that I have to wear.
“This win was certainly the highlight of my bodybuilding career so far. I am so lucky to be able to do what I do, but if I can do it , anyone can do it.”
Pearl is now in preparation for an even larger event in Italy in 6 weeks time. She will compete alongside the best athletes from all over the world.
The Masters Pro Qualifier in Italy is the largest competition of its kind and so the hard work continues.
A brilliant achievement. It takes such discipline & determination. Well done & good luck with future comps
