This is your weekly round-up of the latest court news, covering some of the cases heard by the Isle of Wight Combined Court over the past week.

Week to 23rd November 2018
• Mohamad Samer Marwan Sanan, 40, of Melbourne Street in Newport admitted assault by beating when he appeared before the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on Monday.
Sanan, a Syrian refugee, was handed a 12 month community order, ordered to undertake rehabilitation work with Probation around domestic abuse and fined £80. He was also ordered to pay £35 in costs with a £85 surcharge.
• Gavin Michael Price, 44, of Downsview in Sandown appeared before the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court today (Friday) accused of 26 different offences – for which he did not enter any pleas.
Price is accused of 14 charges of possessing knife blade/sharp pointed article in a public place; 2 charges of possessing an offensive weapon in a public place; possessing an imitation firearm in a public place; obstructing/resisting a constable in the execution of duty; 2 charges of driving a motor vehicle otherwise than in accordance with a licence; failing to provide a specimen for analysis; 2 charges of using a motor vehicle on a road without a valid test certificate and 2 charges of using a motor vehicle on a road/public place without third party insurance.
Price will appear before the Isle of Wight Crown Court on 21st December.
• Richardo Silva, 32, of St Paul’s Avenue, Shanklin pleaded guilty to driving whilst disqualified, driving without third party insurance and driving without an MOT certificate when he appeared before the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court last Friday.
Silva was handed a 6 week prison sentenced, suspended for 12 months. He also received 6 points on his licence and was ordered to pay £85 in costs with a £115 surcharge.
• Ashley White, 21, of Slade Road in Ryde admitting posessing a bladed article in a public place and using threatening words/behaviour to cause fear of violence at the Isle of Wight Crown Court.
White was handed a 8 month prison sentence, suspended for 2 years. A curfew was also imposed on him.
• John Phillip Squire, 32, of Mountbatten Drive in Ryde – formally of The Fairway, Lake – appeared before Magistrates last Friday where he admitted a charge of driving a motor vehicle when alcohol level above limit and another charge of using a motor vehicle on a road without third party insurance.
Squire was caught on Kite Hill in Wootton on 25th October and blew 42 on the breathalyser – the legal limit is 35. For the 2 offences he was banned from driving for 12 months and ordered to pay £85 in costs with a £30 surcharge. He was also fined £80.
• Damian Warde, 21, of Wroxall Close in Northwood admitted a charge of common assault, a charge of criminal damage and a charge of obstructing a constabable in the execution of his/her duty at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court on Monday.
Warde was given a 12 month community order and ordered to complete 80 hours of unpaid work. He must also pay £345 in compensation and costs of £85. There is a surcharge of £85 also.
Appeals
• Abul Hamid of Shahanaz (IOW) Ltd in Lake appealed to the Isle of Wight Crown Court on Friday following his conviction for 4 food hygiene offences. The business, which closed its doors in October, was previously fined £32,000. Judge David Melville sided with the appellant and reduced the fine to £16,000.
