The end of a house in Newport has been ripped off by strong gusts brought about by Storm Ciara this evening (Sunday).
The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are on scene at Quarry View on the Camp Hill estate having been alerted to the destruction shortly before 17:00.
Island Echo is told that a conservatory has also been damaged.
Gusts of up to 97mph have been battering the Island all day, bringing significant disruption to cross-Solent travel. The strongest gust was recorded at The Needles at around 14:00.
Firefighters from Newport remain at Quarry View.


























































































So Sad to see the damage at the same time we lost our corner ridge tiles from our roof in Hope road shanklin maybe more to come !

Reminds me of a house in Caesar’s Road, Newport October 1987 after the Great Storm when the gable-end blew out.
I hope the insurance company acts swiftly in getting the house stable and repaired.
