The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are tackling a property fire at a farm in Porchfield tonight (Saturday).

4 appliances from Newport, Cowes and Freshwater are on scene at Bunts Hill Farm off Corf Road, alongside a water carrier from Freshwater. A second water carrier from Ventnor has been requested.

Fire crews were mobilised shortly before 19:05.

UPDATE @ 19:57 – It has been confirmed to Island Echo that the fire has broke out in a single storey holiday let of standard construction.

Flames were seen reaching out of the roof of the property as the first crews arrived on scene.

The incident has been scaled up and firefighters are working hard to prevent the blaze from spreading to other adjoining holiday lets.

A mix of hose reels, main jets, breathing apparatus and positive pressure ventilation is being used.

At this moment in time, the cause of the fire is unknown and investigations are expected to take place to establish the ignition source, as the property was empty at the time that the fire broke out.

No persons have been injured.

UPDATE @ 21:25 – The incident has been brought under control, but sadly significant damage has been sustained to the building. The roof has been completely destroyed.

Appliances are now standing down but firefighters are expected to remain on scene for a couple of hours yet.

Investigations are set to look into the cause of the blaze.
