A main road through Havenstreet has been closed this morning (Saturday) following a 2 vehicle collision that has resulted in fears of a gas leak.
Police, fire and paramedics were first called to Main Road, near the junction with Firestone Copse Road at around 10:30, following reports of a single vehicle collision.
At the scene a Vauxhall Signum has collided with a Skoda Fabia with the Vauxhall careering into some roadside gas infrastructure as a result.
Firefighters are spraying both the vehicle and the gas infrastructure with a constant stream of water to ensure the scene remains safe.
Due to the nature of the incident, the road has been closed at the junction with Stroudwood Road and Firestone Copse Road.
SGN engineers are present as they carry out investigations into the state of the damage.

Motorists are advised to avoid the area for the time being.
Access to Havenstreet Steam Railway for the 50th Anniversary Steam Fair is from the Newport end (Combley Road) only. It was just yesterday that urgent works to repair the carriageway were completed.
This is the 2nd gas-related road traffic collision of the week following an incident which saw a lorry wipe out a main in Sandford earlier this week.

this is opposite the little cow shed, hope they aren’t affected too badly. That junction is dangerous because it has two entrances, people speed down each and never look to see if there is a car coming from the other direction, you’d think it would be easy to not act like a dense retard and slow down a bit but apparently not, something surely needs to be put in place
Speeding is rife on the island, until the so called
clueless authorities address the speeding problem
such accidents will keep happening on the island.
Where does it say that speeding was either a factor or a cause? An idiot can have a stupid accident at five-miles-an-hour.
In my experience, while speed is a problem, it’s not always the reason for these accidents. You can introduce all the speed restrictions all you like, but that won’t stop an idiot from doing it in slow-motion
More utter unbelievable shit driving..
All numpties should re-take their tests in either
Pompey or Soton.
You couldn’t make it up could you. Still, the road was open for an hour or so. What a dawn summer.
Traffic rules / safety is shocking on the island.
