A 27-year-old man remains in custody after leading Police on a pursuit through the streets of East Cowes late last night (Sunday).
It was at around 22:45 that officers attempted to stop a vehicle of interest – a blue Peugeot 206 CC – on York Avenue.
The vehicle failed to stop for police, and a pursuit ensued. Island Echo understands parked vehicles were damaged in the process.
After leading officers through residential streets, the car went off-road and weaved around concrete bollards on Saunders Way.
However, the game was soon up, and the vehicle came to a stop at the other end of the road – also blocked by concrete.
The driver decamped from the car and made a quick getaway.
Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary has confirmed that officers have arrested a 27-year-old man from Sandown in connection with the incident on suspicion of failing to stop for police, dangerous driving, and drug driving.
He remains in custody at Newport Police Station at this time.

Knowing the way our justice sysyem runs, he will have been out on bail long ago demanding his car back and bailed for 6 months so as they can do the paperwork.
The court will probably ban him from driving which won’t make any difference as most people like him drive without a licence or insurance anyway.
