The team behind a community bus scheme in the West Wight has revealed exciting new plans to make the service greener and more cost-effective.
This week the FYTbus team launched a new route using a brand-new electric bus that will run between Bouldnor through Yarmouth, Freshwater and Totland and onto Alum Bay on weekday afternoons.
The new route – Route E – complements the 2 existing weekday morning routes around Freshwater, Yarmouth and Totland.
The FYTbus team, with support from Solent Transport, has also launched a brand-new App enabling residents to book their seat in advance. Bookings can be made using the App (FYT and SCIA booking App), via the website or by calling the FYTbus office on 01983 752917.
To complement the new electric bus, the FYTbus team is now pressing ahead with plans to install photovoltaic panels on the roof of their depot to power the new bus.
MP Bob Seely, who attended the launch event on Tuesday, said:
“I would like to thank all of the volunteers working so hard behind the scenes to keep these vital services running. I’m really keen to support the team with their plans so I’m looking for grant funding to support the installation of the new roof panels.
“If there are any individuals or organisations out there who would like to help support this project please do get in touch, we’d be pleased to hear from you.”
Donations can be made via the FYTbus website.

How very appropriate to get climate-change denier Seely along for the photo-op with the green bus. But perhaps his boss hasn’t told him about all the new climb-downs in Downing Street.
We see nothing of it for years but now it is photo bombing at every trivial event. Please don’t vote for it.
Read Seely’s latest column in the CP. He clearly thinks he is our savior.
Either he’s delusional, or thinks anyone considering voting for him is.
Frankly, anyone considering voting for that waste of space must be either very wealthy (the only people who benefit from the Tories) or mentally ill. This is the bloke who backed Truss. A woman who wiped £billions from the UK Treasury in a week.
£30 billion to be exact Re Tories.
Great local cause, unfortunately allowing Seely to get involved won’t help at all and it reads like he’s actually working for them which is laughable. Then again, he’ll be out of a job soon enough so maybe he’s planning ahead.
I guess they didn’t get the memo? Electrics really not the answer, even the government have bowed down and admitted it, and now they have wasted a lot of money on a glorified milk float with a lot of seats in the back!
