UPDATED: The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service have been called to a fire near the Hoy Monument on St Catherine’s Down this afternoon (Thursday).
Appliances from Newport and Shanklin, as well as water carriers from Freshwater and Ventnor, are attending the incident near Chale and Niton.
Crews were mobilised at around 16:00.
UPDATE @ 16:42 – Island Echo understands that fire crews are now standing down from the incident.
It has been established that the fire is in fact controlled burning and no action is needed.
