The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service and Police are attending a road traffic collision at a crossroads in Sandown this lunchtime (Sunday).
Emergency services are on scene at Station Avenue at the junction with St John’s Road.
At least 1 occupant of a Ford C-Max appears to be medically trapped inside the vehicle as a result of a 2-car collision, which occurred shortly before 12:55. The fire service were called at 13:13, according to control.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service have been requested to attend.
The road is currently blocked to all traffic with Southern Vectis buses diverting locally.
UPDATE @ 13:41 – 1 person is being extricated from the C-Max by fire crews from Ryde and Shanklin. The roof of the vehicle is being removed using specialist cutting equipment.
Paramedics are now on scene and are working with firefighters to transfer the casualty from the vehicle into an awaiting ambulance – on a spinal board.
Station Avenue remains closed, with other approaches also closed to motorists.
UPDATE @ 14:17 – Emergency crews are now standing down from the incident with the casualty en-route to St Mary’s Hospital. A second casualty is being assessed by paramedics.
Recovery of the vehicles involved – a Ford C-Max and a Citroen Xsara Picasso – has been arranged.
