The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service have been mobilised to a fire in a classroom at the former Carisbrooke College building in Newport this evening (Friday).
3 fire appliances – 2 from Newport and 1 from Ryde – are in attendance off Taylor Road, where a blaze has broke out at the rear of a derelict building.
Crews were alerted to the developing incident at around 20:00 when local security company Vectis Group Security discovered the fire, which at this stage is thought to have been started maliciously.
Firefighters have entered the building by forcible means and are using breathing apparatus and a hose reel to contain and extinguish the fire.
1 appliance from Cowes is standing by at Newport to provide immediate fire cover for the Newport area.
UPDATE – The incident has now been brought to a close.

Again? Will the school STILL decide not to prosecute IF, big IF the police ever catch them (again)
Hope the arse holes get caught putting fireman’s life at risk
Shame the rodents didn’t toast themselves doing it
