UPDATED: The Isle of Wight Fire & Rescue Service have mobilised several appliances to the Isle of Wight College in Newport this afternoon (Monday).
2 pumps from Newport, 1 pump and the Aerial Ladder Platform from Ryde and the Incident Command Unit from Newport are all en-route to the scene near Medina Way.
The alarm was raised shortly after 14:00 this afternoon.
The initial call is thought to have been to a fire on the roof of a single-story building where contractors are currently undertaking work on-site.
UPDATE @ 14:39 – A small roof fire has been quickly brought under control.
2 COBRA sets have been used to tackle the fire.
Chris Thearle, Tactical Advisor for the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service has comfirmed that contractors were using a heat torch on the roof when they noticed smoke issuing, prompting a call to the fire service.
Resources are now being stood down but 2 appliances remain on scene. They are expected to return to station within the next 30 minutes.
