Firefighters from Newport and Ryde are attending an incident at Scarrots Lane in the heart of Newport this morning (Friday).
2 pumping appliances, a rescue tender and an aerial ladder platform have taken up position in the vicinity of Starbucks, where Scarrots Lane meets St James’ Street.
Attention is being paid to the roof of the building.
The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service mobilised to incident at around 05:00. Police and ambulance crews do not appear to be present at this time.
All roads remain open, save for Scarotts Lane itself.
UPDATE @ 06:50 – It has been confirmed that firefighters have successfully talked down a man who was threatening to jump from the roof of Starbucks.
All resources have now stood down from the incident and all roads have re-opened.
