The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service have been called to a property fire in Newport tonight (Friday).
3 fire appliances – 2 from Newport and 1 from East Cowes – have been mobilised to an address on Barton Road, off Coppins Bridge.
Police are also on the scene.
The emergency services were initially called to the incident at around 23:15.
Barton Road, near to the junction of Robinhood Street, has been closed to both traffic and pedestrians. A cordon has been established while the emergency services deal with the incident.
The East Cowes appliance was stood down en-route to the incident and has since returned to station.
UPDATE @ 00:40 – Fire control has this morning (Saturday) confirmed that a fire started within the bedroom of the property.
4 breathing apparatus (BA), 2 hose reels and COBRA has been used to tackle the fire, which has now been extinguished. The stop message was received at 00:25.
Barton Road has now reopened to traffic although Police remain on scene.
A police cordon has been erected around the front of the property, with the pedestrian footpath also closed.
An appliance from Cowes was on standby at Newport Fire Station providing fire cover while both appliances from Newport dealt with the incident.
