FIRE SERVICE CALLED TO EVACUATE PATIENT FROM FIRST FLOOR WINDOW


UPDATED: The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are working alongside colleagues from the ambulance service to evacuate a patient from a property in Newport tonight (Thursday).

The Mall has been closed in both directions by Police as firefighters use an aerial ladder platform to bring the individual out through the first floor window of a terraced property.

7 firefighters from Newport are on scene alongside 2 paramedics and a paramedic officer. They arrived on scene at around 20:00.

Southern Vectis buses and all motorists are diverting locally.

UPDATE @ 21:04 – The patient has now been evacuated from the property and is being treated at St Mary’s Hospital for unknown injuries.

The road re-opened in both directions with all Southern Vectis buses returning to their normal routes.
