Firefighters have been called to reports of multiple fires in the open in Upper Ventnor this evening (Saturday).
1 appliance from Shanklin is on scene off Lowtherville Road having been mobilised by fire control at around 18:50.
Several 999 calls have been made about the fires, which can be seen from some distance.
UPDATE @ 20:10 – It has been confirmed that the 3 separate fires are controlled burning, with no action required by Shanklin’s retained firefighters.
The fires are being monitored.
The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service have now stood down.



























































































Always believed that any ‘controlled burning’ should be reported to the fire service…prior to lighting ?
