Firefighters are assisting colleagues from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service in rescuing a casualty from a trench at a property in Ryde tonight (Wednesday).
2 crews are on scene at Thornton Manor on Thornton Manor Drive near Puckpool, where a woman has fallen around 1 metre into a trench surrounding the large, multi-occupancy property.
It is currently unclear how the woman has ended up in such an unusual predicament. There are concerns she may have sustained a neck injury as a result of the fall.
The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service swung into action at around 21:40 and remain on scene at this time. The space in which the casualty is located is said to be confined, which is adding to the complexity of the rescue.
UPDATE – The woman has now been freed and is being conveyed to St Mary’s Hospital.

She ended up down in the trench after drinking for many hours and a fight breaking out between her and some of the men she was drinking with
comes as no surprise whatsoever – along with the wasted time of the emergency services for a self inflicted situation.
Sounds as though the men may have had something to do with her ending up that way.
