Firefighters on the Isle of Wight are putting their knowledge and experience to the test with a realistic exercise at a derelict care home in Sandown tonight (Tuesday).
The Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service have been joined by officers from Hampshire Constabulary at Stonehaven on Carter Street, where the former care home is being put to good use.
Firefighting skills are being tested in a realistic environment with the use of 2 pumping appliances, breathing apparatus and flowing water.
Members of the public shouldn’t be alarmed by the presence of emergency services and blue lights flashing. A small sign indicates that it is a training exercise – although the media have not been informed of the practice incident.
Some local residents are reporting discolouration to their water supply as a result of a stand pipe being put in place to pull water from the mains.
