Firefighters from the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are tackling a fire in the open involving 30 haybales in East Cowes this evening (Monday).
A large number of haybales are alight within a field off Folly Lane, just off the main Whippingham Road.
2 fire appliances from Newport are in attendance alongside a Land Rover 4×4 from Ryde. A water carrier from Freshwater and another from Ventnor are also en-route to the scene.
Folly Lane is blocked in its entirety.
UPDATE @ 21:05 – A telehandler is being used to spread out the hay, which is now fully engulfed by the fire.
2 fire appliances and 2 water carriers are on scene, as are Police.
Folly Lane is expected to remain closed for at least another hour.
UPDATE @ 23:05 – The incident has been scaled back with crews gaining full control of the fire.
Damping down is taking place with crews still turning over the hay to ensure the blaze is fully extinguished.
