A fire has broke out in the pump room of the GKN Aerospace sprinkler building in East Cowes this evening (Friday).
4 fire appliances from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service are on scene at Ferry Road, where a strong burning smell is present.
An Aerial Ladder Platform and the Incident Command Unit are also in attendance.
Crews are working to swiftly tackle and extinguish the fire, which began shortly before 19:00.
It’s understood smoke could be seen coming from the sprinkler system – normally utilised to quickly move water around the factory in the event of a fire.
The workforce have been evacuated from the site.
UPDATE @ 19:30 – The situation has been contained and the incident is being scaled back.
Island Echo is told that some diesel oil came into contact with a hot motor, sparking the fire.
The extent of the damage is unknown – but is thought to be limited.
No injuries have been reported.
UPDATE SATURDAY @ 19:00 – Firefighters have been called back to the East Cowes factory having been alerted to a reported industrial oven fire.

Talk about irony. A sprinkler system starting the fire.
That motor must of been hot as diesel ain’t the easiest liquid to ignite some 400 degrees I think
Diesel can ignite as low as 90 degrees centigrade!
Lucky it never burnt down. Otherwise the perfect excuse to move it to the mainland, and build ever more benefit breeding hutches for those who only ‘take’ from the country and supply the next, larger generation to do likewise until the system breaks.
